They were ugly when they came out, and they’re ugly now. From the snout-over-jutting-chin front end, to the downswept side window line that would look more at home on a Crosstour. In fact, it makes this once boxy now rounded crossover look even MORE out of proportion. And don’t get me started on the tailgate and rear bumper treatment.
Some designs get better with age, and become easier on the eyes. This one has not.
What late model vehicle design do you think hasn’t aged well?
Post your pics and reasons below.

...or as I like to call it, the 4th Gen Civic Wagovan with a lift kit.

The Honda ______ from 2010 - 2015.
Anything too “cutting edge,” like the Hyundai Sonata (post-2005?). Meanwhile, the platform-shared Kia Optima will probably age just fine.
I’m a big fan of more timeless designs.

I laughed so hard when I saw this post knowing how true it is!

The E63/4 BMW 6 series. Out of all the Bangle era BMWs, there’s still something off about it. I’ve written before that the front just looks doofy, and the rear boot lid looks like it was stung by a bee or something and got swollen. I wish it aged better, because they are apparently top notch GT cars.

This lower grille always bothered me, reminded me of a hairlip.

Sure, it costs a lot and goes ridiculously fast. But it looks like an edsel. It has since day 1.

Nissan’s first foray into the “Lifestyle Crossover,” was groundbreaking when it came out a little over a decade ago. It was rounded and sort-of-similarly styled to its more upscale cousin the Infiniti FX:
But while the FX was low-slung and athletic, with the long-hood, short-deck proportions of a muscle or GT car, the Murano wound up looking bulbous and strange. Future generations got even worse:
Until the 2015 model arrived, with a new face to match Nissan’s new design language:
But while it looks good now, I feel that it’s probably going to be another design that won’t age well. In 2020, we’ll see a bunch of these on buy-here-pay-here lots. By 2027, most of them will have been crushed and turned into Chinese washing machines.

I hate that these (and even the new ones) in base form ride on those hideous steel wheels.

I would nominate the current-gen Taurus. Looked alright when it came out (especially compared to the old 500/Taurus), but now it just looks fat and bloated.

Notable exceptions being the Civic update for 2013:
Boring, but not as boring as the ‘12 - that even Honda knew was a swing-and-a-miss

I actually was meh on that, but the previous one (4-door only) was fantastic in its Futuro-suppository styling.

This design never looked good. It’s to big, it’s got to many conflicting curves. Honda has improved on the design a bit, but it’s still ugly. I quite like the HR-V tho.

This 2016 isn’t going to age well either, saw one in person last weekend and that front end looks horrendous, over styled, way too much plastic and bulky.

Really I find these mostly inoffensive, if boring. The window line doesn’t bother me, and the grille is minorly doofy.
I’ve never liked the ’08-’12 Accord sedan though.
The blocky grille and headlights don’t flow with the rounded greenhouse, the front bumper is bulbous, the trunk is all misshapen, the rear window curve doesn’t flow with the C-pillar, the character line running on the side doesn’t add any character. It is a design that as soon as it was introduced was both bland and ugly at the same time.

I wasn’t a fan of the Murano design until I had to sit down and make myself like it. I think of the Murano as a car designed by the French for the Americans but engineered and built by Japanese. I rather like it now. There’s no liking the 2nd gen.

right car, wrong gen.
These were so ugly. especially when compared to the previous gen.

I laughed when I saw how they “refreshed” the rear.
REFLECTORS!!!!!!

Those were also ugly, but they bother me less than the one I posted.
![]() 10/30/2015 at 12:40 |

Yeah that’s not even as much effort as the refresh from ’95 to ’96. At least that time they added an actual light housing to the trunk lid.

That whole...lower jaw bumper thing. It looks like the original design had a terrible accident in a labratory blowing the lower half of it’s face off, but instead of becoming a cool cyberninja, it could only be used for soccer practice hauling duty.

2nd gen Durango. Thought it looked ugly 10 years ago, think it looks ugly today. Some cars grow on you after a few years, this one didn’t. Maybe after another 10 years it’ll look better.

That’s the road Honda is going down. Have you seen the new Civic? Good Lord.

Lol wait isn’t this the new 2016 Civic?! How many of these ugly things are they making?!
![]() 10/30/2015 at 13:59 |

Nope. I think that’s a 2015. The 2016 is this terrible Crosstour+Prius/Insight+6 or 7 more design directions smushed into one really stupid looking car. If the redesigned Prius and Murai didn’t exist, it would easily be the ugliest car on sale today.

Lexus RX300 from around 1999. I have always thought these were ugly cars and will continue to. The RX330/350 have aged reasonably well, but this is so 90’s Japan it hurts.

Some of the American retro designs fall into this category. The PT Cruiser, that horrible Mustang. Now they’re just hatful dated things.

And the centercaps share the same part number as that of the 1988 Civic.

I honestly don’t see many on the road at all. I probably couldn’t tell you the last time I saw one of this gen.

I think 1st gens were way more popular. I see at least 4 first gens to every 2nd gen.
